Name: Tantai Jin/Cang Jiumin

Species: God, technically.
Appearance: Tantai Jin is 5'10", but delicately built. He has long, straight black hair that reaches his lower back that he usually wears in ornate styles. His black robes are traced with gold and each of his fingers is protected by armored talons. His eyes shift from dark brown to amber/gold to red depending on how far he has given into the primal evil inside of him. In the center of his forehead, there is a red-to-black symbol (it looks like a flame) - again representing his deepest nature.

1.) Who in your character's canon influenced the most growth in your character? What do they think about this character?

Li Susu is undoubtedly the one who has pushed, encouraged and forced Tantai Jin to understand himself and the world better. In his eyes, she represents an immovable force of nature that demands he do better and be better (rather than falling onto old habits born of bitterness and hatred). Without her, his journey to becoming the Devil God would have been a crooked, dark, painful path and he would have taken each step willingly until all he knew was cruelty. But because of her, he wants to protect the world and all of the people on it.

Li Susu is his wife and the one he loves most. Because he loves her, he is connected to his humanity and thus to human-kind. He would do anything for her - including die.

5.) What is your character most afraid of?

Rejection and loneliness used to plague him, but since falling in love, his greatest fear is losing Li Susu. He does his best to not harm her (though the dark deity within him puts him in awkward, heart-breaking situations). Even when she is a victim of that darkness, she chooses to stay beside him. She is the only one who has done so in all of his five hundred plus years. Thus losing her, even temporarily, tears his heart in two.

7.) What is your character's biggest ambition at their current canon point? To what lengths would they go to see it to fruition?

Tantai Jin's biggest ambition is kept secret from the Devil God; he means to save all of humanity and to die with the dark deity in his clutches. Li Susu can see it done and so he has been coaxing her to lash out at him, to kill him. He doesn't fear death because he knows with his demise, she will be safe. The world will be safe. He will do anything to see that happen.

10.) What would be your character's lowest, darkest moment they've lived through? How did they respond to their troubles and face their demons?

When Li Susu died after extracting his Evil Bone, Tantai Jin could only bear his pain by falling into delusions. He tried to die with her too, laying her body - and his - on a block of ice so that they will be preserved for eternity together. Yet his friends and followers interrupted his grim wish and eventually Tantai Jin faced the truth: his wife had died and he needed to find her soul. So he journeyed to the river between life and death and searched for her for five hundred years. Each time he entered said river, his soul was ripped, torn and burned. But since his soul is that of a deity, the river could never fully dissolve him and so he continued in agony for centuries, never finding her.

When he emerged - or was saved, rather - he understood he had to live in a way that she would be proud of and so he set himself against the Devil God fully.

It takes Tantai Jin awhile to comb through his darker emotions, but thanks to the one bright spot in his life (his wife and the love she taught him), he does try to claw his way back to the surface. He tends to live like a drowning man, fighting his demons desperately just so he can hang onto the morsel of kindness that Li Susu sowed into his heart.

Inventory: His robes, his armor, his mask and, I guess, the weapons he keeps inside? I listed them in his powers/abilities. They can, of course, be nerfed/unavailable for him to summon.
Powers/Abilities: Evil Bone: He was born with said evil bone, which is what makes him the devil fetus even when he was a weak mortal. In a way, said bone determines his full fate and, with the other magical objects, ensures he will be too powerful to stop.

Xiaoyao Sword Technique: This is a special sword technique that brings forth a small army of swords (made out of magic/light) that can be launched at enemies.

Jiansheng Fu: Using a talisman, he can bring forth any scenery he wishes. Of course none of it is real, but it is beautiful and good for meditation.

Bone Refining Seal: Only he can control the Bone Refining Seal, God Slaying Crossbow and Sky Slashing Blade. Those three are his greatest weapons as the devil god. The seal in particular traps its victim in a cage of fire/light and eats away at their immortality/spirit until there is nothing left.

God Slaying Crossbow: The crossbow is connected to one of his eyes. A large red eye will appear in the sky (along with the crossbow) when it is in use and Tantai Jin can track any enemy before shooting them down with flame/spirit destroying arrows. And, yes, he can track multiple targets at one time; he has taken out full sects that way.

Sky Slashing Blade: He stole said blade from other immortals and he can call upon it when necessary. The power the blade emanates is obviously destructive (thus the name).

Outside of his various weapons, Tantai Jin is physically/magically strong.

→ He can knock opponents away from him with a sweep of his arm. The force of said action is enough to knock an immortal unconscious (if not kill them if they hit a rock or a wall).

→ He can move quickly - shifting from one place to another in a blink - and he is extremely talented with a sword (even a normal weapon).

→ He can communicate with animals and they can be convinced to do his bidding (crows and spiders especially).

→ And, lastly, he can draw magical power from others and use it as his own.

Samples: He awakens cold and confused, unwilling to open his eyes and yet...he must. The light hurts, sound hurts and the lancing pain in his neck is nearly unbearable. Thankfully he is accustomed to pain and so he does his best to listen to the strange...man?...creature?...that welcomes him. But none of the words make sense and he ends up drifting back to sleep again.

His dreams start almost immediately in a flurry of black feathers and anxious caws that put pressure on his throat. When he tries to lift his arms, he finds wings and before he can adjust to that shock, a strange, biting desperation fills his chest.

I must fly!

Tantai Jin flaps and hops, unable to mimic what birds seem to do so easily. He caws again and looks around him with wide, dark eyes.

I'm going to die.

Or something much worse, he fears. His little heart pounds in his chest and he ducks himself under some brush, trying to be quiet, barely breathing. Something large walks by him and he can smell the blood on them. Tucking his beak under his wing, he waits, counting the seconds, until they are far enough way. Then he tries again, running and leaping into the air - and this time he is successful, flying up and up until he is balanced on a tree branch. He surveys the area around him, recognizing nothing.

I have to return.

Nothing else matters more than that. But before he can go back, he has to understand what happened. What brought him here so suddenly? A tense knot surfaces in his stomach and he realizes his problems are much larger than being hunted. Someone brought him here on purpose...? Was it that man with the strange goggles?

{Rubbing his neck and paler than snow, Tantai Jin glowers at the feed. He isn't the mood for jokes or lightheartedness.}

I assume I am speaking to fellow prisoners? {His throat still hurts - almost as if his dream had been real. Or maybe the discomfort is connected to his aching neck?} My name is Tantai Jin.

Tell me more about this place, please. Any details are welcome - even if you think they are inconsequential. {Then, because it is staying with him, refusing to fade.} I had a dream. I think I was a crow or a raven. Has anyone else experienced that?

Player Goals: Tantai Jin is such a dark character and yet, by the end of the series, he becomes the protector of humanity/the world. I love the journey he takes emotionally and I can easily see him branching off on new paths in a game. Depending on what he encounters, his darker side might become more prevalent or he might drift more towards the light. My goals are to see what he will become and what bonds he will make along the way.

- Feathers will first appear in his hair and then down the center of his back. Eventually, they will spread until he has large wings (connected to his arms).

- Then his fingernails will become black talons. Thankfully his toenails will be spared.

- He will have exceptional vision with eyes the color of molten gold. Perhaps they even look red, though there is probably a different reason for that change.

- A syrinx will be his next addition, allowing him to sing and breathe at the same time.

- He will possess all three additional powers: Orpheus' song, Sway of the Anemoi and Furies' sight.
